Beginner's Guide to Chakra Crystals

Chakra crystals
I love crystals. They’re powerful, spiritual, and gorgeous to admire! Crystals found me during my beauty therapy training; my tutor introduced them to me through energy cleansing. At first, I was a little sceptical, wondering what a simple stone could do to help someone. She showed me how powerful they were by realigning the chakras of a fellow student, who became so overwhelmed that, after the session, she burst into tears. The energy of the crystals released pent up emotion dwelling inside her and, after taking a moment, she announced she felt lighter, happier, and relieved. I was hooked.

I researched the best crystals for a beginner and started building my collection. I began with the fundamental chakra crystals. I’ve outlined my beginner’s crystals below to give you an idea of where to begin:

Hematite

Hematite crystal

A gorgeous silver root chakra stone that looks and feels wonderful. You may be drawn to hematite if you’re searching for a sense of grounding. Your root chakra is at the base of your spine: place them on the ground where you’re sat or after your feet lying down. This stone will eliminate negative energy from the body and provide an immediate sense of balance and focused calm.

Carnelian

Carnelian crystal

A favourite of mine. This orange beauty helps to cleanse and restore all other crystals. Helpful tip: place this stone in the middle of your collection to evaporate negative energy and restore balance to all your crystals. For yourself, carnelian aids the sacral chakra, found in the reproductive area. Our emotional, sexual, and creative centre. Carnelian will give you a boost of energy and creativity; motivating you to achieve your goals.

Citrine

Citrine crystal

Yellow and golden crystals help manifest confidence and empowerment to succeed. If you feel stagnant in your achievements, or something is holding you back, it is usually connected to your ego – which is where the solar plexus comes into play. Citrine is a powerful gemstone for manifestation and will bring you a sense of happiness, abundance, and light.

Rose quartz

Rose quartz crystal

Another one of my favourites (let’s face it – I love them all!) I keep two sets of rose quartz and clear quartz in opposing corners of my bedroom to protect my dreams. Works a treat! Rose quartz is the pink stone of love and therefore sits on the heart chakra. This stone will open your heart to all types of love, including self-love – the most important of all.

Sodalite

Sodalite crystal

Often suffer from a sore throat or feel like you can’t express yourself? Your throat chakra may be blocked and in need of awakening. Sodalite is great choice. High in calcium, manganese, and salt, it has a soothing and harmonious effect on your glands. If you want to speak your truth, this blue gemstone will strengthen your self-worth and give you the confidence to communicate openly.

Amethyst

Amethyst crystal

A beautiful purple crystal that’s perfect for your third eye. This chakra sits in the middle of your brows and opens the senses to cosmic intuition. If you feel connected with the spirit world, you may feel drawn to third eye connected crystals. Amethyst provides enhanced insight, spiritual awareness, and inner truth. If you’re into meditation, keep amethyst with you to awaken your third eye chakra.

Clear Quartz

Clear quartz crystal

The high empress of crystals in my eyes. The ultimate crystal for your collection. It energises and activates your chakras and amplifies the power of other gemstones. When realigning the chakras, this clear stone is placed above the crown of your head, connecting you to your higher consciousness.

Of course, these were my preferred choices when embarking on my crystal healing path, but this isn’t a definitive start to your gemstone journey. Each stone is unique and provides distinct properties. Everyone will feel drawn to different stones. Consider the colours of the chakras when searching for your starter stones, the crystals will do the rest.
